Language Learning Celebration on Tuesday, May 26 at 6 p.m. at the Marshalltown Performing Arts Center

The Marshalltown Community School District will celebrate 206 K-12 students who have reached English proficiency and are exiting the district’s English Learner (EL) programming during a special recognition event on Tuesday, May 26.

The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. at the Marshalltown Performing Arts Center and is open to the public.

Students attending the event will be recognized for their achievement with certificates, and families will also be acknowledged for their continued support throughout their students’ language-learning journey.

“Reaching English proficiency is an important milestone that reflects years of perseverance, growth, and confidence-building for many of our multilingual students,” said English Learner Program Coordinator Rachel Inks. “We are incredibly proud to celebrate their accomplishments and the support of their families.”

The districtwide celebration marks the fourth annual event recognizing Marshalltown students who have demonstrated the ability to independently communicate, collaborate, and succeed with grade-level academic content in English.

District leaders say the event highlights the ongoing academic growth happening across all school buildings and honors the dedication students have shown in developing their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

“We are so proud to celebrate this milestone with our amazing students, families, and staff” said Executive Director of Educational Services Dr. Shauna Smith. “Achieving English language proficiency does more than open doors, it equips our students with the communication skills and confidence to thrive in an ever-changing landscape.”

The English Learner Proficiency Celebration will take place Tuesday, May 26 at 6 p.m. at the Marshalltown Performing Arts Center. Community members are invited to attend and celebrate the accomplishments of Marshalltown’s multilingual students and their families.
