HAMPTON — The Marshalltown boys’ wrestling team went 3-1 to finish second to host Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Saturday at the Steve Deike Duals.
The Bobcats fell to the Bulldogs in the opener, 42-33, before beating Central Springs (39-33), Forest City (43-33) and Iowa Falls-Alden (50-27) to close out the day.
Marshalltown was led by four wrestlers who went 4-0 — Nicholas Wise at 138 pounds, Xayvion Anderson at 165, Dalton Zednichek at 175 and Johan Gomez at 190.
Zednicheck led the way with three wins by pin and another by technical fall. Anderson had three pins and a major decision, Wise had two pins and a technical fall, and Gomez had two pins.
The Bobcats also got 3-1 performances from Joses Corral Coronado (113) and Jaxson Hinkle (285). Coronado had a pin and two technical falls, while Hinkle had a pin and a major decision.
Israel Garcia (120), Lucas Bantz (132) and Cooper McLeod (144) all finished 2-2 on the day.
High-scoring Polar Bears overpower Bobcats, 72-43
DES MOINES — All five Des Moines North starters scored in double figures as the fifth-highest scoring team in Class 4A beat the Marshalltown boys’ basketball team 72-43 on Saturday.
The Polar Bears (12-4), averaging 70.6 points per game, made nine 3-pointers and put the Bobcats on their heels. North scored 26 points in the second period to turn a 10-point game into a 43-17 halftime lead.
Da’corion White scored a game-high 21 points to power the Polar Bears, who have won four straight. Aaron Poe (14), Naszir Lamar (13), Tarian McNeley (13) and TAngello Bush (11) helped high-scoring North notch the victory.
Marshalltown (6-13) couldn’t get the shots to drop in the loss, going 17-of-45 from the field (38 percent). Kyle Smith scored a team-leading 16 points, making four 3-pointers in the second half, an he had a team-high 11 rebounds.
LaMar Johnson chipped in with seven points, Adam Boone had a pair of treys for six points, and Drake Gersema finished with five points and three assists.
The Bobcats go on the road again Tuesday, traveling to Des Moines Lincoln, before hosting Des Moines East on Friday.
