DES MOINES — A shorthanded Marshalltown boys’ basketball team couldn’t keep up with Des Moines Lincoln as the game went along, and the Bobcats fell 65-46 to the host Railsplitters in Tuesday’s Iowa Alliance Conference clash.

Lincoln (10-9) led for nearly the entire game, taking the lead for good midway through the first quarter and never relinquishing it. Desmon Campbell scored a game-high 22 points for the Railsplitters, who outscored Marshalltown 29-13 over the second and third quarters combined.

The Bobcats (6-14) were within 20-18 after the first quarter but only scored four points in the period, going cold for the first six minutes as Lincoln pulled away.

Juju Brown added 15 points and Charles Fry finished with 10 as the Railsplitters, who beat the Bobcats for the seventh time in their last nine meetings.

Kyle Smith scored a team-leading 18 points for MHS, while LaMar Johnson finished with 11 points. Both had five rebounds to lead the Bobcats. Jacob Hayes chipped in seven points and four boards, while Drake Gersema added four points and three assists.

Dominyc Clure contributed two steals in an increased role due to the absence of starting forward Jamison Niehouse and center Will Swartz.

The Bobcats play their final home game of the regular season on Friday, hosting Des Moines East in Alliance action. Marshalltown’s regular-season finale is Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Council Bluffs Jefferson.
